What do I need to make a Video Call?

This page is for all users of Video Call including clinicians and patients

To make a Video Call you and your patients don't need any special equipment or software downloads. You simply need the following equipment and set-up.

    Supported web browsers

    Browser requirements for Video Call

Please note: On iOS devices with version iOS 14.3+ the following browsers can be used in addition to the Apple Safari browser:  Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox.

Using a smart phone or tablet

Smart phones and tablets have inbuilt microphones and cameras, so you just need a wi-fi or 4/5G internet connection to join a Video Call.

    Using a Computer

If using a desktop or laptop computer you will need:

    • A web camera - built-in or attached using a USB port
    • A microphone - usually built into most laptops and external webcams
    • Speakers and headsets - speakers are usually built into most laptops, or you can use USB speakers. Headphones/headsets are good for patient privacy if you are in a shared space.
    • A reliable connection to the internet - if you can watch a video online, you can make a video call.

    Pre-call test

You can run a pre-call test to make sure your equipment is set up and working correctly. This test will check your network connectivity, camera and microphone and provides links to help articles to let you know how to troubleshoot any issues.
