Sound Meter Application
Measure the sound level and pitch of a patient in your Video Call consultation
In collaboration with SA Health, we will soon be introducing a Video Call Sound Meter application, for use in specialties including speech therapy and other clinical use cases. This application provides clinical information about a person's vocal volume and pitch and can be used as an assessment or feedback tool.

Using the Sound Meter Application
| To access the application, go to Apps & Tools and click on Sound Meter. |

The application opens and you can select either Speak, Listen or Stethoscope. Clinicians will usually select Listen or Stethoscope unless the patient is in the room with them and they are getting into a call with a remote specialist. In that case they would press Speak.
Stethoscope optimises the audio coming from a digital stethoscope. |

Depending on your selection, available microphones will display for each participant in the call for you to choose.
Your mics will display in blue and other participants' mics will display in red.
Select the required participant's microphone you would like to use for the sound assessment. |

| If configured in the clinic, the requested participant needs to provide consent for the use of their microphone before the app will start gathering the data. | ![]() |

Once the required participant's mic is selected, live data will show in a dial and graphs in the Live tab.
This displays live reading of the selected person's vocal volume and pitch. |

Under Reading Passage you can select the standard Rainbow Passage or type/paste in a custom passage for the patient to read during the vocal assessment.
This passage will display for the other participant in the call. |

In the Settings tab there are various settings you can adjust as needed in the call.
These are shown in the image to the right and the default settings are set by your clinic administrator. These can be changed at any time in a Video Call to suit your requirements. |

Conduct a trial
You can conduct a Trial, to document the readings over time.
When the Trial is in progress, press End Trial to end that trial. |

| The Trial results screen shows the results over the trial time period and there is a Generate PDF option to save them on. You can then upload to the patient's record. | ![]() |
Configuring the Sound Meter Application - for clinic administrators

Clinic admins go to Apps and click on Sound Meter. Then click on the Details cog.
In the Configure tab there are various options: |

The default name for the app is Sound Meter. This can be changed in the clinic, if required.
The app must be enabled before it will appear in the Apps & Tools for all calls in the clinic. |

| Add a destination email address. This address will receive all completed trial results for the clinic. | ![]() |
| Enable Remote Microphone Consent, if required. When enabled, the patient will be presented with the Consent Message you configure when their required mic is selected by the host. Once they consent, the volume and pitch data will start coming through in the call. | ![]() |

Default Gain Control is set to 1 and can be changed as required. This setting will apply to all calls in the clinic.
The Default Reference Level refers to a target level that will show in the volume graph. |

| You can also change the Default Calibration Offset and Sampling Interval, if required for clinic calls. | ![]() |

Lastly, the Default Pitch Smoothing setting can be changed, if required.
Remember that if you make any changes to any of these settings, click the Save Configurations button at the bottom of the config options. |
