Coming Soon to healthdirect Video Call
Find out what is coming soon to Video Call - including added functionality and design updates
Hover information for additional patient entry fields
Clinic staff will soon be able to hover over a patient in Call Activity view and in the waiting area to see any additional information captured via custom patient entry fields. This saves time, removing the need to open the 3-dot menu to check the activity log or patient details to view information not displaying by default.
Host ability to turn in-call chat on and off
Call hosts will soon have the ability to toggle the in-call chat on or off for participants. This enables more control for hosts, who can decide whether the chat function is available to other participants, particularly in multi-participant calls.
Group Room call improvements
We are in the process of updating Group Room call infrastructure, which will greatly improve the performance of group calling. We are currently testing this new technology before releasing it across the service. If your organisation or clinic is interested in taking part in testing, please contact us.
Updates to Bulk Billing Consent Form
The Bulk Billing Consent form in the Virtual Forms application will be updated to include an option for Patient URN and the ability to select whether the person giving consent is the patient or an authorised representative. This image shows the new URN number field and the selection for who is providing consent.

Sound application
In collaboration with SA Health, we will soon be introducing a Video Call Sound application, for use in specialties including speech therapy and other clinical use cases. This application provides clinical information about a person's vocal volume and pitch and can be used as an assessment or feedback tool. Example screenshots are shown in the overview below:
| Once the application is launched, you can select to either Speak or Listen. | ![]() |
| Once Speak or Listen is selected, select the required participant and the required microphone. Both the patient or clinician can select the required microphone. |
|
| Once selected, the application starts to measure the volume and pitch of the speaker's voice, shows the data live in a dial and graphs. |
